I disassemble every leg segment and run a cleaning cloth (minimum) through the  inside of the tubes to dry them out.

This also removes anything that may have entered them (like sand).

Care must be used in disassembly so you don’t break the spacer/wedges.

And don’t forget to use a brush on all of the threads while you’re in there.

I clean the outside of the tripod before reassembly.
